María Luisa Galardi (Oiartzun,1964), founder of the furniture company Ondarreta, received the Joxe María Korta Award in honour of the professional trajectory last 22 November, "for great values of sacrifice and work." This acknowledgment, granted by the Basque Government, coincides with the company's 40th anniversary after its establishment in 1975. Its facilities lie in Oiartzun (Gipuzkoa, Spain). Its establishment and relaunch took shape over a foundation of “sustainable development,” applying “extra design and quality” to its products (tables and chairs, mainly). Read more
Under the II edition of the Bilbao Bizkaia D Week 2016, the Asociación de Diseñadores de Euskadi (Basque Country Association of Designers) (EIDE) has organised a programme of activities that seeks to promote and spread Design culture, as well as professional exchanges. The programme runs from 17 through 30 November, with actions taking place in the city of Bilbao: meetings, open houses, round tables and conferences, workshops and book presentations. Read more

“Statistics on Patent, Utility Models, Industrial Design and Trademark applications. First Semester, 2016.”. This is the title of the document drawn up by barrixe – Observatory of Innovation in Biscay. Although the data show a slow-down in applications for Patents in Biscay and the Basque Country, they also show an upward trend in regards to applications for Utility Models, Industrial design and Trademarks in comparison with the same period in 2015. Designer Mario Ruiz Rubio (Alicante, 13 August, 1965) won the National Design Award, in the “Professionals”category, granted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The jury highlighted his “timeless, enduring style, as well as his international projection.” Mario Ruiz, whose studio is in Barcelona, summarises how his work is oriented thus: “From the inside out” with the premise of adapting to "the client’s actual needs.” Read more
SIMON: Manufacturer of interfaces, electric material and technological solutions, it has won the National Design Award, in the “Companies” modality, granted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The jury highlighted “the company’s ability to introduce Design into products for everyday use.” In the words of Luis Lopezbarrena (general manager of SIMON): “we are proud of being able to add this recognition to the celebration of our one hundredth anniversary. Our motto, Simon Light Up Emotions, allows users to create ambiances with our products that awaken all kinds of emotion through Design.” Read more
